Specializing in Marital and Premarital, Relationship Issues and Peer Relationships.

I’ve been a counselor for almost 40 years now – doing both individual and couple’s work.

I try to strike a balance between listening, educating, and application. Many people fear that the issues that bring them to counseling are deep-seated and unlikely to change, yet I find that many are just lacking the necessary information and tools necessary to see progress.

My practice is called Right Choices Counseling because most people coming for counseling are looking to make better choices with their life, moving forward. We all have the same basic healthy needs, but the problems usually arise in how we try, or don’t try, to get those needs met.

My approach is eclectic.

I have had training in several different approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Beyond those approaches, ultimately, you find your own style. There is no one-size-fits-all approach in counseling, as each case may require a different fit. I work primarily with relationship issues, men’s issues and adjustment problems.

Why me over another couple’s counselor?

Many who advertise themselves as couple’s counselors simply take on the role of referee for the couple, and let them fight things out. However, this usually proves unproductive and just results with an emotionally exhausted couple not looking forward to returning for another session. My approach is to give couple’s better tools in order to see better results, then learning how and when to apply them, which also keeps the couple from becoming dependent on the counselor to solve their problems.

Seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness.

Quite the contrary, it takes courage and wisdom to recognize when you’ve exhausted your own resources – even better if you have the foresight to use counseling as crisis prevention. Feel free to contact me with your questions, or to set up an initial appointment to see if this might be a good fit.
